The Cotton

by sarah hair Email

We made the hike over the hill to North Side Cottages and the beach beyond them several times. There are about a half dozen or so of these cotton plants along the side of the road. Sarah thought they were wonderful: "You'd never need to buy cotton balls."

It was something to do with the hands as we picked out the seeds on the journey.

The Beach House

by sarah hair Email

This young man showed posed in front of what he said was his beach house. A fine old building, but a little walk from shore.

Some of the structures are simply amazing. We often wonder why folks bother building new houses on Eleuthera, when they could probably get one of these and fix them up much more affordably

This fella's Beach House

It is beautiful, one must admit.

Cool houses about Town

by sarah hair Email

Rock Sound has many of these old, heavily fortified buildings, abandoned to the elements. Some get renovated - a new lease on life. Others stand testament to the storms that wash over this island.

Malia's Beach Art

by sarah hair Email

Malia found all these objects on the beach and collected them to make this amazing beach sculpture.

Madison's Beach Art

by sarah hair Email

Madison rearranged the pieces Malia found and came up with her own version of the beach art.

John, Madison, and Malia walking the beach

by sarah hair Email

We found this beach, which had a bunch of amazing beach glass finds, including some very large and very odd shapes. Madison found a cobalt blue piece, which in our family means she gets ice cream. There were not very many pieces, but the pieces we did find were all very beautiful.

Beach Stairs

Madison contemplates going down these stairs to get to the beach.

John and Madison

We decided it was safe enough and worth the risk to check out the beach all the way down there.

Purple Morning Glory

We saw a lot of these flowers as well as some cotton bushes as we walked across the 1.5 miles of the island's width to get to the beach.

House in Rock Sound

by sarah hair Email

It was so beautiful, but falling down. There are a ton of houses in various stages of degradation, development, and disarray.

termites

This is the termite nest in front of the concave house in Rock Sound. 'Nuff Said.

Luna Sea

This was an art gallery, but I think it has long since closed its doors. It has this amazing fence of driftwood painted in Bahamian style colors. It is just about the first place you see from the dock when arriving by boat.

Friendly Dolphin

Swam with us for about an hour, but as always, shied away when we got out a camera.

in the back of the truck

We met this nice man who gave us a lift over to the beach, about a mile away.
